Stocks Wood is owned by Claire and Julian Earle and was chosen as an ideal venue for outdoor learning because of its unique origins. Once an empty field, in the late eighties a journey of planting was begun by a local Botanist with a passion for native species. It now contains a wide variety of woodland flora, including many native species such as Oak, Beech, Hazel and Silver Birch. In addition there is a pond, small stream (Wiza Beck), bog area, meadow and many pathways to explore. The site is fully risk assessed and fenced on all boundaries to provide peace of mind whilst children and adults have fun with their activities. The site includes a compost toilet with additional outside urinal, an accessible compost toilet(with ramp and grab rails) and a very cosy Cabin which can be heated by a log burning stove (safe in a metal cage) in colder sessions. The Cabin can seat a whole class of children.

Coaches can access the site easily with medium sized coaches (approx. 33 seaters) being able to drive straight into the car park and reverse on site before pulling out. Larger coaches can drop-off passengers kerbside and can also entered the carpark using one or two maneuvers.

Some of our site’s many features:

Fire circle; Pond dipping platforms; Wiza Beck; Heated Cabin / classroom; Mini-adventure playground; Mud Kitchen; Bug hotel; Compost toilet/urinal; accessible compost toilet; Three bridges; Fairy Lane; Mud Mountain; Hammocks; Temporary shelters.
