KNOTS and LASHES

The following videos will take you through some of the knots and lashes we use at Stocks Wood. When children show confidence in using the knots and lashes in the woodland they earn one of our Stocks Wood oak leaf stamps in the skills journal. It is a great way to see the progress the children are making with their new found skills.

Part One

The overhand (stopper) knot, the overhand knot on a bight and the double overhand knot.

The clove hitch

Part Three

The Timber Hitch and the Round Turn and Two Half Hitches. These are great for tying a washing line to throw a tarp over.

Part Four

The tautline hitch - an adjustable hitch for attaching your shelter’s guy ropes to a ground peg.

Part Five

Sheer lashing - a great way to tie sticks together. You can also use it with 3 sticks to make a tripod for a den.

Part Six

Square lashing - an easy way to make a photo frame or viewfinder.
